A man was jailed for four years for illegally selling a Viagra prescription drug, which was purchased in northern Ireland, a judge in London told the trial that the drug should be kept out of the country.
He admitted supplying the drug with the wrong dosage and the wrong number of tablets. The court heard he sold the drug for a total of £10,000. The case was being prosecuted by a London-based judge, who was not involved in the case.
He was given two years of supervised release in the case after being cleared for six months of living in the United Kingdom.
He was sentenced on 29 March 2014.
Judge Rebecca Longridge said: "This is a highly unusual sentence that is highly unusual for an individual who has committed the offence of importing prescription drugs. This offence is punishable by imprisonment for a period of not less than four years."
She also ordered him to pay a £2,500 fine and a £250 special fee.
The judge said the drug could have caused severe health problems and the pills were not being used in the country where it was sold.
Mr Longridge told Judge Rebecca Longridge: "It was not prescribed to him for his health and he was a patient here. You would think that, if you are a doctor, you would prescribe Viagra for the treatment of erectile dysfunction."
